FDS Northern targets fresh franchisees

The North West’s leading franchising expert is expanding
to fill a gap in the market working with firms looking to recruit franchisees.

Franchise Development Services Northern (FDS Northern) is growing its recruitment arm to help companies to target potential entrepreneurs who want to run their own franchise. Recruiting a franchisee is very different from recruiting someone for a job and some firms are losing out because they are failing to recognise the difference, according to Tony Urwin, Managing Director of the Altrincham based firm.

“In the current economic climate it is more important than ever before that franchise firms find the right people,” said Tony.

“The ramifications for getting it wrong are immense, especially as an investor buying the wrong franchise could be investing their life savings into a business venture which won’t work for them. “Our work with companies in setting up franchise operations puts us in an ideal position to work with them to populate their franchise network.”

The company has been boosted by the appointment of an industry heavy hitter in the shape of Charles Sindall as Franchise Recruitment Manager. Charles, who joins FDS Northern from a similar role at All Trades Network, has a wealth of experience in the franchise industry, having worked for businesses including Budget Rent A Car and Kall Kwik over the last 23 years.

“There is a real opportunity for FDS to work with franchisors to significantly improve their recruitment very quickly,” said Charles. “Recruiting franchisees is an art form – they are not applying for a job, they are investing in a business. “FDS has got a good infrastructure to provide support for companies and we can clearly demonstrate where we will be able to make a difference to their recruitment process.”

Charles outlined exactly how the recruitment process would work.

“We will find out what people are prepared to commit to - do they want a full time, hands-on franchise or are they looking for something more appropriate to fit around their lifestyle?” he said. “For example, if somebody is interested in setting up a food outlet, after talking to them it may become clear that another type of business would be more appropriate. "It is all about achieving something that will benefit everybody involved. I am delighted to be joining FDS Northern as Franchise Recruitment Manager at this exciting time.”

Charles, aged 58, lives in Hartford, Cheshire, and is married with three children.
